Šai‎kh Mullā Jīwan; Biography and A Particular Study in Arabic exegesis of Manār

Abstract

Šai‎kh Mullā Jīwan [1638AH – 1718AH] was an accomplished sufī scholar and an expert of intellectual sciences as well as the transportation sciences of the sub-continent, who quenched the thirst of many students after completing his studies in his native place of Amīthī from the experienced scholars of the province of Āudhe-India of that time. Mullā Jīwan was exceptionally proficient in jurisprudence and also had a deep knowledge of Ḥadīṯ, Mysticism and rhyming rhetoric which are reflected from his books. He was a passionate preacher of islam and great writer in both Persian and Arabic. He wrote many books but the most popular among them is “Nūr Al-Anwār” which is an easy and an art decorated book from the exgesis of “Manār” written by a great Allāmah Al-Nasfī (died in 1310 AH) and it is included in the curriculum of Dīnī Madāris. So, this study aims to narrate the biography of Mullā Jīwan and accentuates the exegesis of Manār Particularly “Nūr Al-Anwār” so that the readers of this book will come to know about the scholarly personality of Mullā Jīwan and they will be induced to the more research workings of this great scholar.
